The most underrated part of a client retainer is the rhythm.
If a report goes out on the 1st of every month, your clients learn to expect it. They look forward to it. They reply to it. The conversation about the website becomes a monthly thing, not a quarterly fire-drill.
If it goes out “whenever I get round to it” — sometimes the 3rd, sometimes the 12th, sometimes never — the conversation becomes a justification. What did I do for them this month?
